'Laat ons skyn vir Jesus met 'n helder glans' ..... Those were the days of having 'Pinkster bid-ure' on the most central farm, in 'die wyk' We came together in the biggest 'stoor'. We were a mixed lot- farm owners, farmworkers, children and the 'dominee'. We came in a mixed manner- on foot for those nearby, with wagon and tractor and lorry and 'bakkies' with the occasional car of an elderly stiff-jointed farmer and his wife.The binding factor, our love for the ground, our knowledge that we are as interdependend and more important; all-dependend on God.

I miss the natural harmony and flow of the'Hallaluja' songs. There I respectfully looked at 'Dronk Frans' whose marvelous voice made the gathering into a choir unto heaven. Together we as a community kneeled and confessed our sins, together we were cleansed by His blood and together received His grace.

The respect 'Ou Frans'gained in our children's heart forever bonded with His grace and when I saw him drunk again I could not despise him as before. He stopped drinking when his liver lost the fight and he turned to become a Pastor, not a 'dominee', there was no time for the 7 years needed for that.

Until today, many years later, his light shines in my heart, not because of what he did or say, but because of The Light that shined into both our hearts at a 'Pinkster' long ago.
